Someday...

Someday I will sit at my table and drink a cup of coffee before it gets cold.
Someday I will not have a "just-in-case" change of underwear in my purse.
Someday I will carry just a purse, and not a diaper bag!
Someday I will not have to clean up the same mess 5 times in one day.
Someday I will only have to wipe my own bum.
Someday I will not find socks in my Tupperware, toys between the couch cushions or snotty kleenexes in my pocket (or at least they'll just be my own kleenexes).

But...

Someday I will not be able to heal an injury with just a hug and a kiss.

Someday I will not carry a sleeping child in from the car, and feel how perfectly their little head fits on my shoulder, just under my chin.

Someday they will not want to hold my hand.

Someday I will not be able to peek in and watch them sleeping before I go to bed.

Someday I will no longer be called "mommy".

Someday I will not be at the center of their universe.

There are some days when it seems like "someday" can't come soon enough.  But there are other days when it feels like it will be here far too soon.

I'm past all of the "somedays" in the first paragraph and I'm definitely happy about that.

But, I'm also past some of the ones in the second paragraph, and yes, those ones do come too soon!! The only one from there I can still claim is getting to peek in and watch them sleeping. I occasionally still get a "Mommy" though I suppose. Other than that, that's about it.

Sniff, sniff...

Far too many people place all the emphasis on the first parts and miss the second. Good for you hun for seeing the moments worth holding onto and taking the time to breathe these precious gifts in.

When we can see the moments worth holding fast to, it makes all of it so worth while.

Love you dear friend!

What a great post! You'll be able to look back in 10 years and see that you made a special effort to appreciate the first paragraph by writing them down. It also brought a tear to my eye thinking of what I've missed out on with not having kids. Makes me appreciate the kids whose lives I am a part of a little more! Thanks for sharing them!
