Fall activities

Yesterday was swimming registration day, and today was registration for all the other city's leisure programs. In an unprecedented move, I've registered the kids for.... nothing. For the first time (ever, I think) we have no fall activities planned (so far). I want to put Annika in a full year program of either dance or music, but I haven't registered her for anything yet because she keeps changing her mind as to which she wants to do. Hopefully we're not too late when she finally decides. Other than that, I think starting kindergarten and preschool will be enough for the time being.

There is so much beauty to be found in simplicity and the freedom to explore and play. I grew up in programs and they were great, but sometimes I wonder what it would have been like with fewer programs and more space.

We never do fall activities (besides piano which I teach them). Well, I guess we used to do dance so I shouldn't say "never" - but I am not a fan of a lot of programmed activities, especially in fall as they're getting used to a new school year. Some kids are in multiple dance programs, and a sport or two, plus swimming...it's CRAZY! I'm a full supporter of exactly what Carrie said - "freedom to explore and play."
